It's officially spring, so yay to that! I, for one, am staring to get very tired of wearing the same sweaters and pants day after day, to the point that I've stopped shooting daily mirror selfies because I'm boring myself. But the good news is that the days are brighter and longer (I love that the sun sets after 7pm now!), everything is starting to bloom, and new spring things are hitting the stores. The problem with shopping for spring now is that it may be a month or two before you have the opportunity to wear your new things. The weather can go from one extreme to another this time of year—ask my mom about the time it snowed on Mother's Day—but the best thing you can do is check the forecast, get creative with layering, and go with the flow. Here are a few ways I'm starting to transition to spring outfits.
Sweater jacket, tights & riding boots
I may look quite bundled up in this outfit—and I was actually quite cozy thanks to the thick wool sweater I was wearing underneath—but the outer layer is a sweater jacket, and it's lighter than it looks. I really wanted to re-create this look but instead of my Max Mara coat, I swapped in this fun, fringey style instead. I rarely wear miniskirts in the winter, even with tights, so I was very excited to break this one out. If it were a little warmer, I would have gone bare-legged, but a 20-dernier tight is a good compromise here, as it keeps your legs just warm enough without overheating.

Shirt jacket, lacy blouse & jeans
This feels like a variation on one of my favorite outfits from last year: same jacket, similar top and jeans, different shoes. On this lovely early spring day, I had worn a trench coat over the shirt jacket, but it was so warm in Napa, I didn't even need it. More importantly, this was a way to break out one of my new spring purchases—a pretty lace blouse—while still staying warm. Wearing a blazer or shirt jacket as outerwear is always a good move in my book. And I can't believe I haven't yet featured these jeans on the blog—I bought them because I love my Shon pants so much, and they've quickly become one of my favorite pairs. Like the Shon, they run big—go down at least a size.

Bomber jacket, pointelle top & white jeans
Full disclosure, I had planned on wearing my Nili Lotan Flavie pants for this outfit but felt like I've been featuring them too much here, so I switched them out for these older COS jeans at the last minute. These jeans fit me beautifully when I bought them a few years ago (and weighed 5 lbs less); I now hate them in photos, so I think it may be time to thank them for their service. Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of bomber-type jackets in stores and this one is such a good transitional weight. The cropped shape generally balances out a wide-leg pant well too. And the good news is that mesh flats are still in this year, so now feels like a good time to start wearing them again—they're the perfect shoe for when you're not quite ready to commit to wearing sandals.
