3 winter outfits I'm loving

This is the time of year when I tend to get the outfit blahs. It's cold and dark and wet, and all you want to do is wear something cozy...but that gets uninspiring after awhile. You may be tempted by all of the spring stuff rolling into all the stores and websites, but if you're like me, you're trying to be responsible and not go out and buy a whole bunch of new stuff just because you're tired of what you already own. Whenever I start to feel this way, I like to take a look at the pieces in my closet that I love but haven't worn in awhile, then try to find new ways to wear them (okay, maybe with some things I've bought more recently). Here are some of my favorite outfits that I've put together recently.

Moto jacket + black maxi dress

I haven't worn this leather jacket in ages—it's cut a big snug so I have trouble layering it over anything bulkier than a T-shirt—but I found it was the perfect thing to throw over this not-quite-midi, not-quite-maxi dress that Reistor sent me for a collab. The dress, by the way, has no hanger appeal whatsoever, but it's super flattering on and very comfortable. (It does, however, wrinkle like crazy.) If I were wearing this anywhere but California, I would layer tights underneath and maybe try to slip a thin cardigan on too, but it was in the 60s when we shot these last month so yes, I'm in bare legs. Also, these are the shoes I got in NYC over the holidays; they were the one thing I bought on the entire trip, and they were on major sale. Bonus: they're actually comfortable (groundbreaking for Louboutins!).

Peplum top + wide-leg trousers

I bought this top during & Other Stories' Black Friday sale and while I wore it quite a bit over the holidays—it's a fantastic going-out top—I didn't have the right occasion to feature it here, until now. I tried to lighten the photos to show you the detail; it has gorgeous ruching all around, with a peplum hem, and while I've mostly been wearing it with more fitted things, I decided to try it with a more full silhouette on the bottom. I was kind of surprised that it works, but it does—and that's the key to not looking like you're wearing a peplum top with skinny jeans, like we were all doing in 2012. Speaking of things that were last popular a decade ago, I couldn't resist adding a statement necklace, but this one feels more timeless (I got it in Italy last summer). I'm also obsessed with this little red bag at the moment. although it fits nothing more than my phone and keys; stay tuned for a future post with more details on it.

Maxi coat + pop of red

This coat was one of my favorite buys of 2023 and I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't worn it yet this season, until now! Oof, too many coats. Anyway, I had the idea to wear it with an all-black outfit, then decided at the last minute to add a pop of red with my tights. For some reason, I love wearing these tights around the holidays but now they're feeling a little "pick me" (and for the record, I switched back to black tights after we shot these). The heart necklace is a little on the nose for this time of year, but it got a bunch of compliments at the house party I wore this outfit to later in the evening. I know all black is kind of harsh against my fortysomething skin, but I'll never get tired of wearing it—nothing makes me feel more pulled together.
