The best things I bought in 2024, part 1

Before I move on to 2025—and set some clear shopping intentions—I thought I'd take look back at the best things I bought in 2024. Note: while I often feature a lot of gifted products here on the blog (which I always disclose!), these are all things I spent my own, hard-earned money on. This week I'm focusing on clothes, shoes, and accessories, and I'll be back next week with my beauty favorites. Here are my best buys of 2024.

Nili Lotan Shon pants

While I bought a few things from her Target collab a few years ago, I had never bought anything from Nili Lotan until I happened upon a pair of her Flavie trousers on major sale at UAL in New Orleans back in March. As I noted in my 2024 recap, they were one of my favorite items of the year, and they inspired me to try the Shon pant (originally seen in this post), and while it's hard to pick a favorite, I think I love these even more. They're so soft and comfortable, but they look kind of edgy—I feel like I'm stepping a little out of my comfort zone with this style, but in the best possible way. Important note: these pants run huge; I went down 2 sizes and they're still a little big, but I'll never say no to a little vanity sizing.

Veja V-10 sneakers

Sometimes certain trendy sneaker brands can feel like the emperor's new clothes, so I waited awhile to buy my Veja V-10s—probably so long that they're almost out of style now. And while the last thing I need at this point is another pair of sneakers, I can unequivocally say these have been my favorite pair all year. They're super comfy (and lightweight!) and they go with everything. I find these run a little big, but in pleasantly roomy way. I will keep wearing mine, trendy or not!

Isabel Marant Nelly jacket

I love pretty much everything I'm wearing in this outfit, including the glittery red socks, but I truly get a lot of wear out of this wool shirt jacket. The shoulder pads are a bit exaggerated, but as someone with narrow shoulders, I've found them to do great things for my proportions. I took my larger Isabel Marant size (a 40) in this one, and for the record, I've decided the Celine bag and the Chloe sneakers are not for me—look for them on The Real Real soon.

Zimmermann tiered skirt

I also discovered the Australian brand Zimmermann in 2024, and this skirt was my gateway drug. I first featured it in New Orleans and later in my summer shoe dupe roundup (where I wore my second Zimmermann purchase, this dress, as well). This brand is really pricey and the sizing is weird (I'm a 1 in some things, a 2 in others), which makes me hesitant to recommend it, but their pieces are gorgeous and basically make it rain compliments whenever you wear them. Now when I see something by Zimmermann that I like, I watch it like a hawk and scoop it up on sale (the department stores are a great source for this).

Gap's Khaite dupe cardigan

File under things I was not expecting in 2024: a major turnaround from Gap. Lately I've been shopping from them more than any other Gap brand (sorry, Banana Republic!)—their basics-with-a-twist are so good, especially the cotton cardigan in this post that's heavily inspired by the Khaite Scarlet cardigan. The cardigan is mostly sold out at this point, but let's hope they bring it back in 2025, as I'd definitely buy it in more colors.

Quince shearling jacket

I wore this only a handful of times this year—while traveling to New York and Chicago in the winter—but boy was I glad I had it. This jacket is a bit of a splurge but it's the warmest thing I've ever worn in my life, and for real shearling (which this is), you can't beat the price. It runs true to size.

Madewell Western belt

One of my favorite items of the year was also one of yours—this belt (my second of three Khaite dupes I bought from Madewell last year) was the 2024 top-selling item on Cheryl Shops. I usually gravitate more toward gold hardware versus silver, but in this case, I think the silver gives it quite a bit of edge (without feeling costumey). This belt runs a little big, so size down if you're between sizes.

Hermès Calya mules

I first spotted these in Vienna in 2022 and it took me over a year, but I finally scored a pair on The Real Real and first wore them in this post. I know clogs can be divisive—they do make a loud clomp-clomp sound and I don't recommend wearing them if you're trying to get somewhere in a hurry—but I find these to be incredibly comfortable and really chic-looking. They run true to size (I'm in my usual 39).

Loewe Puzzle Edge bag

I haven't mentioned this bag directly, but you've probably seen it featured in a gazillion of my posts this year. I had always thought it was an ugly bag until I saw a woman wearing one in West Hollywood at Christmas last year, and then I became obsessed. I bought a very gently used one, as I almost always do with designer bags, and it's quickly become one of my favorites of all time. The size is perfect, I love the handle and longer strap combo, and it looks interesting but doesn't have a big screaming logo. My only quibble is that the band that holds the shoulder-strap end in place tends to slide down, but otherwise, this bag is totally worth the splurge, IMO.

Zara lady jacket

I know, it's another jacket—what can I say, I love my outerwear. And after months (and a few false starts) of looking for the perfect lady jacket, I scored this one on sale back in the summer. It works with a lot of pieces, but I prefer it most with jeans, so it doesn't look too fussy or old-lady-ish. The current version of this is on sale at the moment, but I have a feeling Zara will be bringing it back again for yet another season—it's just that good (and true to size!).

I'll be back next week with my best beauty buys of 2024—stay tuned!
