Some seasons there's a trend you can't seem to escape, and for fall, it's suede. It's everywhere this year—especially accessories—and to be honest, I have mixed feelings about it. Suede is notoriously hard to keep clean—dirt tends to get stuck in the nap and getting it out requires a thorough, frequent brushing. Lighter colors especially get schmutzy quickly; there's a reason you never see white suede. That said, there's something rich and textural about suede that lends itself to fall. Traditional autumnal colors like chestnut brown—and all the shades of brown that are also incredibly popular at the moment—really look good in suede. And if properly cared for over time, it can develop a gorgeous patina. I wouldn't recommend going for something you plan to use every day, but if you're strategic about it, suede can be a really luxe addition to your wardrobe. Here's how I'm wearing it.
I almost went out and bought a new bag to shoot for this post, but after my No-Buy July, I'm really trying to be more conscious of what I'm buying. Plus, I realized that one of my favorite pairs of boots is, in fact, suede! Knee-high boots are a smart thing to buy in suede because you don't wear them very often—mine come out on select, somewhat dressy occasions between November and April, but not when it's raining—so they don't withstand the wear and tear that your everyday shoes do. Also, when it comes to suede footwear of any kind, the darker the color, the better. My boots are a super-versatile taupe, which works with a bunch of colors and tones, and happens to hide dirt pretty well. Because suede is softer than leather, it lends itself to a more slouchy style, like these; I love a pull-on boot and this pair is one of my all-time favorites. I'm wearing my usual size 39 and they're very comfy, however be aware that this style might be snug on larger calves.

1. Soooo, I fondly wore their moccasins as a kid, and in recent years, Minnetonka has been rightfully accused of cultural appropriation. Since then, they've been working with indigenous designers, so I feel like now's a good time to practice cultural appreciation by wearing these very boho fringed boots.

I love suede whether it is trending or not. That gorgeous suede skirt is calling my name!
I've always loved suede! I used to wear suede trousers when I was mid 20s! Fantastic boots Cheryl and amazing with that dress!
Excellent suggestions! I always like autumn trends, these clothes are comfortable and look beautiful. Wool sweaters are my favorites in my wardrobe :)
Love your boots! A beautiful color. I'm a bit reticent about suede for all the reasons you mention. I have several pairs of suede ankle boots which are very impractical for our weather....sadly. Thanks for linking and have a great weekend

I love those boots! I found a fringed taupe suede jacket at my mum's that I bought in my teens - I wore it to a Bon Jovi concert in 1989! All these years later it's on trend again! Thanks for linking!
