Remember when you were a kid and got one of those countdown-to-Christmas advent calendars where you got to open a new door every day and inside there was a piece of chocolate? (Mmm, chocolate.) I used to beg my mom to open more than one per day because clearly I was a sugar addict, but I think the true joy was enjoying a small daily treat leading up to the biggest treat-fest of them all, Christmas. Of course, you don't have to be a Christian to enjoy an advent calendar, and apparently you don't have to be a kid either, because a bunch of beauty brands have started creating their own, after the success of the original Liberty of London advent calendar. (Note: this year's version has sold out twice already, but I am praying it comes back in stock, because it's goooood.) Speaking of selling out, I had intended to post this next month as part of my gift guide, but since so many beauty advent calendars have sold out already, I thought I'd better jump on it. So while you can spend $200-$300 on a luxury brand's version, there are a bunch of amazing advent calendars out there for under $100. Here are my eight favorites.
1. Rituals is a bath and body brand that keeps trying to break into the American market; I've encountered their products mostly in European hotels and airports and have been pleasantly surprised by them. This 24-piece set is a nice introduction to the line.
Rituals The Ritual of Advent Countdown to Christmas gift set $74.50
2. This set from Saks comes with a full-size Foreo Luna and hard-to-find brands like U Beauty and Augustinus Bader, and at the price, I'm surprised it hasn't received more attention. This one's in my Saks shopping bag as we speak.
Saks Fifth Avenue Apothecary 14-piece advent calendar $75
3. Almost all of these advent calendars disclose all of the products featured, but Glossybox's version is a total surprise that, based on the reviews, seems worth it, with 19 full-size items and 6 deluxe minis. Plus you don't even have to be a Glossybox subscriber to buy it (members get $10 off).
Glossybox Reasons to be Happy 2020 advent calendar $99
4. I was super impressed with the brands featured in Macy's advent calendar, from Elemis and Lavido to Koh Gen Do and SK-II. This is an amazing value: $434 worth of product for $99 (and on sale as I'm writing this)!
Macy's 25 Days of Beauty advent calendar $69.30 (reg. $99)
5. Okay, this one is a hair over $100, but it's so good that I had to include it. It has a mixture of mini and full-size products, including my favorite lipstick (Rosewater by Kosas), plus Augustinus Bader, Sol de Janeiro, Oribe, and more top brands.
Revolve Beauty 2020 advent calendar $125
6. If, like me, you've been doing your own nails since March (and probably will be for awhile), this 24-piece nail polish set may be for you. I love that the bottles are mini, as I have a hard time finishing a full-size before it starts to get all thick and gloopy.
Ciaté London Mini Mani Month nail polish advent calendar $65
7. I didn't even know that ASOS carried beauty, but this 24-piece set features a ton of British brands like Elemis and This Works; 13 of the products are full-sized; and it's worth a whopping $477 in value.
ASOS Face + Body 24-day vacation calendar $99
8. L'Occitane might not be the sexiest brand, but their products are solid, and I always get excited when I see them in hotel rooms (remember those?). Highly recommend the almond shower oil and hand creams in this 24-piece set.
