What to wear with a black slip skirt

When I was younger and I had an item of clothing that I really liked, my mom would encourage me to buy it in multiple colors. At the time, I found this to be embarrassing and eye-rolling, but now I realize that 1) I was a teenager and found everything embarrassing and eye-rolling, and 2) my mom realized how hard it was to find good clothes, so she was doing me a solid by pointing this out. So, at the ripe old age of 42, I am finally not ashamed to buy things I love in multiple colors. In fact, I'm going to do it more often.

My latest buying-in-multiples acquisition is this Free People slip skirt, which I already own in a silvery-lilac color (you last saw it with a long blazer). I feel like I'm not alone in my love for this skirt, as it comes in a bunch of different colors, but I will point out that it took me over a year to give in to another one (the rationale being that I was looking for a black slip skirt for ages until I realized I already own the perfect slip skirt and, duh, it also comes in black). Believe it or not, I've been wearing this skirt quite a bit while working from home—it has a waistband, yes, but it's super comfy otherwise and barely feels like you're wearing anything. I feel like I will wear this skirt all year round, as I already do with its sister, and thus it's the best kind of investment piece (although, at under $100, I'd count this skirt as a bargain). My one caveat is that this skirt runs super small—I sized up to an 8 and the waistband is still on the snug side, so err on the side of comfort.

Speaking of things that Free People has made in multiple colors and sold for years, I am also a big fan of this military jacket, although I personally only own it in one color. They no longer make it in black, although the army green color that it comes in is also pretty damn good. I wear this jacket all the time (you last saw it with white jeans) because it's lightweight and comfy, but also because it makes anything you're wearing that much cooler, thanks to the beaded embellishment on one sleeve. Unlike the skirt, this jacket runs huuuuuge (more typical of Free People clothing), so size down. I"m in a small, for reference.

You last saw this tee in Paris, and I feel like maybe it got a little overshadowed by the Eiffel Tower, so I decided to wear it again. Also, it's one of my favorite pieces IRL right now. Anine Bing does great T-shirts and sweatshirts (and jackets and sweaters, and pretty much everything), and I like how it really dresses down the slip skirt, especially combined with the army jacket. I'm wearing a medium but could have gone with a small; this tee is a bit oversized, but I love it regardless.

I decided to switch up my bags and bring back an old favorite; you haven't seen my A.P.C. bag since February, so clearly it's been too long! Rest assured, it's still being put to good use. You last saw these Vans in Paris as well, and they're also in my regular shoe rotation (especially considering that I am all about the comfy footwear nowadays). Sneakers with a longer skirt is one of my all-time favorite styling tricks, because it keeps everything from looking too serious. But more importantly, it feels like "me" right now, and as my mom would know, that's the most important thing.

that is such a cute skirt on you and it looks so nice with the sneakers and graphic top! :) I think that if there's something you love it definitely makes sense to get it in multiple colours - I wear a lot of tees so I have a little rainbow of colours going on with them, haha! But if it works, do it! :) I try wait a little before I buy multiples, to make sure a piece is as much of a staple as I thought it would be to justify another colour, haha!

Hope that your week is off to a good start! :) We are on week 6 of staying at home but they have started to lift some restrictions which is nice! :)

Cheryl, this is one of my favorite ways to style a slip skirt! I recently added a pre-loved red satin slip skirt to my wardrobe and I love the styling options. I am loving your black one and the way you have styled it. Thanks for linking up.

Fun outfit! I have been thinking of styling my Def Leppard band tee. Love your s with the silky slip skirt and the sneakers. Love the rock and roll vibe! Your mom was right! I do that buy certain things in different colors if I really like the garment.
