What's the first thing you pick out when you're getting dressed in the morning? Sometimes I start with the top, sometimes with the bottom, but most frequently, I start with my shoes. I am a Shoe Person, as you dear readers likely know by now, so much so that I often plan my outfits around my shoes. That was definitely the case with this look. The shoes are so bright and vivid that building an outfit around them was a challenge, but one that I was willing to take.
I'll bust out a little journalism here and use the "inverted pyramid" story structure, i.e. start with the most important thing and then go into detail. So that would be when you're dressing around something crazy or unique, the rule of thumb is to keep the rest of your look pretty simple and/or classic, with a unifying factor here and there so the crazy thing doesn't look too crazy. Now you can skip down to the outfit details. Kidding! I've worn this leather jacket several times on this blog (last seen here) and this one is so good, you just can't go wrong.
As far as classics go, a white button-down shirt is right up there. This one is a little more feminine and retro thanks to the neck tie; it adds a little softness to the motorcycle jacket and jeans. The neck tie also creates a vertical line that's really elongating and slimming. Side note: my steamer has been on its last legs for several months; I finally replaced it and have since been wearing all of the shirts I've been neglecting because they've been wrinkled. It's like I have a whole new wardrobe!
You've seen these Levi's many times before (most recently here), and hopefully you can see why they're my current favorite: they're just so damn flattering, and they will just never go out of style. I love me some stretch denim, but I am really into the fact that these are rigid. They just shape you a little better.
Now, onto the star of this look, my pointy-toe blue suede mules. I saw two of my favorite bloggers wearing these shoes on Instagram, and I bought them almost instantly; I chose bright blue because I didn't have anything like it in my closet...but then I had no idea what to wear with them. Too much color would be glaring, hence why I went with the classics, with an extra pop of color in my earrings and bag. These shoes, by the way, are true to size and incredibly comfortable, thanks to their dainty kitten heel. I look forward to thinking of new ways to wear them!
And while I try to keep my photo shoot locations interesting, sometimes quick and dirty is the only way to get them done, so we shot these literally around the block I live on. I think my neighborhood is pretty photogenic, don't you?
