Max Azira Spring 2011

Where & When: Sunday, September 12 at 3 p.m., the Stage, Lincoln Center
Runway Recap: Often when I look at my show notes, they make little to no sense. However, for Max Azria's show on Sunday, I wrote "CREAMY" in all caps and underlined it, and, really, it's a completely apt word to describe his spring collection. It was a series of languid, fluid maxi dresses and loose trousers, the beauty of which was enhanced by the movement that the runway allows. Also in my notes: "perfect summer" and "backs." For the latter, there were all manner of back details, from cutouts to cowls; for the former, well, these are the sort of clothes you end up living in all summer. The palette was limited to super-neutral beiges, creams, and black, with a hint of pale peach and mint, and while color is exciting, let's face it--most of us live in neutrals anyway.
Standout Look: I heard women all around me murmuring in pleasure as the airy silk crepe dresses sailed down the runway; this one is the stuff summer dreams are made of.
Bonus Points: Ed Harcourt's song "Haywired" provided the perfectly relaxed soundtrack for Azria's languid collection. Also, ever one to pack in the celebs, Azria had Solange Knowles, Alison Brie, Estelle, Katrina Bowden, and Leigh Lezark in the front row.
