Where & When: Thursday, September 10th at 7 p.m., Julie Haus pop-up storeRunway Recap: Known for her cheerful feminine dresses, bright colors, and signature prints, Julie Haus seems to be feeling the depression/recession for spring. Sticking to a somber color palette of primarily black, gray, and white with hints of green and pink, Haus was inspired by Charlie Chaplin--there was a "tramp" romper, a "bandit" top, as well as a "ringmaster" jacket. The collection featured several great boyfriend blazers and many versions of the season's prevalent pant thus far, a pleated, slightly cropped style with a tapered leg. There were a few too many rompers for my liking, but the satiny dresses throughout more than made up for it. Taking her look in a darker direction was a risk, but, in this case, one that paid off--the Julie Haus girl may be slumming it downtown, but at the end of the night, she's heading back uptown.
Standout Look: I thought this look--one of the few with color--was an interesting study in proportion: the loose-fitting boyfriend blazer over a cropped top (they're ba-ack!) and printed full skirt. I also liked the styling, courtesy of Elle's Kate Lanphear--many looks in the collection featured odd hats, and all were paired with either oxford shoes or Doc Marten boots.
