CFDA Awards fashion report
When it comes to Hollywood red carpet events like the Oscars and the Golden Globes, celebrities tend to play it painfully safe, knowing that one fashion misstep can result in at least a week's drubbing in the press. Yes, it's nice to see the celebs looking so lovely, but I wish they took more risks. Thankfully, when it comes to the fashion industry's own red carpet events, the attendees take far more risks; the designers are in front of their peers, after all, and if there's ever a time to prance around like a peacock, this is it. While the CFDA awards aren't nearly as dressy as the Costume Institute Gala, there's definitely a lot to comment on. So, on with it.

Best all-around: Michael Kors
No one is more surprised about this than I am, but I must say, I loved every Michael Kors outfit on the red carpet. The chic simplicity of his designs was just perfect for this occasion. From the now-raven-haired Coco Rocha to the super-chic Lauren Santo Domingo to the usually-a-disaster Heidi Klum and the most-improved Blake Lively, color me impressed, Mr. Kors!

Best but not totally creative: Celebrities
I was kind of hoping womenswear winners Rodarte would bring Reese Witherspoon instead, but Kirsten Dunst was a good choice.

Best by default: Bring a hot model
Sure, Diane Kruger looks great in everything, but she definitely brings some sex appeal to her Jason Wu dress. And, I'm wondering if Alexander Wang hopes we're looking at Dree Hemingway instead of at his shorts tuxedo. Works for me.

Best advertising for your brand: You, the designer
Sophie Buhai and and Lisa Mayock (with Erin Fetherston in the middle) always look adorable, and that makes me want to buy their Vena Cava dresses. Also, check out Yeohlee Teng, who remains the minimalist-chic personification of her label.

Worst deja vu: Fabric overload
If it didn't work for Leighton Meester...I'm sorry, Lake Bell, but Vuitton is not working for you either. I feel like these coquette-on-steroids looks were not really meant to be worn in public.

Worst impractical trend: Balmania
I love Balmain as much as the next girl, but I draw the line at dresses that are so short that my ass cheeks hang out and so tight I can't sit down in them. I'm guessing Julia Restoin-Roitfeld isn't wearing tights just because she's cold. Ahem.

Worst Yikes: Turn down the volume
What is going on with Molly Sims' dress? I don't even know where to start. The skirt? The bodice? Wow. Just, wow.

Worst example of how the fashion industry can't dress normal women: Doutzen Kroes
Seriously, this woman is gorgeous. Is it so hard to put her in a flattering dress?

Oh my beauty said...

Funny, I keep seeing a lot of these fashion reports Maybe I am lurking around the online fashion show for quite a while now.

BTW, is it me are the guys next to the girls … somehow wrong with them. Don't seem to compliment them … rather match well. Nope, not at all.
