Fall 2007: Carlos Miele
Remember a few years ago when all things Brazilian were all the rage? Brazilian models, Brazilian cocktails, Brazilian bikini waxes...Fashion has since moved on, and while I prefer the new Canadian models like Coco Rocha and a more modest French wax, some products of Brazil have staying power. Take designer Carlos Miele, whose front row was filled with socialites (Tinsley Mortimer and a bunch of blondes), MTV celebs (LC and Vanessa Minnillo), and fashion cognoscenti (Carine Roitfeld, Suzy Menkes). Inspired by the cosmopolitan woman, Miele's collection was, in a word, sexy.
It was also luxurious. Taking the fur-is-everywhere trend a step further, Miele sent this breathtaking mink and crocodile coat down the runway. I can only imagine how much it costs.
I hate eggplant the vegetable; an ex of mine once tried to get me to eat it by calling it aubergine. "I speak French; I know what aubergine means," I told him. Needless to say, this aubergine jersey dress is incredibly chic for day or night, and, yes, it is a more sophisticated way of saying "eggplant."
Here's another aubergine dress, but this one has beautiful metallic embroidery, making it a super-hot choice for nighttime.
I hope I dress this well when I'm, say, 40. This outfit is so chic, it almost looks French.
Remember the naked dress from Sex and the City? I think this one is even hotter, thanks to the ruching.
This digital reptile print occurred frequently in the collection, but I liked it best in this strapless gown; the ruched bodice is one of Miele's signature shapes, and I think he does it better than anyone else.
While there was so much to like in this collection, this silk dress with metallic trim was one of my favorites. And judging by the looks on the socialites' faces, it was one of theirs as well.
Side note: This is Hilary Rhoda, the new face of Estee Lauder. She's an all-American girl (from Maryland), and a refreshing size 4. I think she's a classic beauty, and healthy-looking.
I'm not a sexy dresser; my daily outfit is something along the lines of Mary Janes, a cardigan, and a pleated skirt. But if I were a ruched-jersey-dress-wearing sexy girl, my first stop would be Carlos Miele's boutique on 14th Street--his designs are enough to turn even the most studious of women into sex kittens.
