If you have a Gap charge card, save 15% and get free shipping on orders of $75 or more. Btw, I went to the Times Square Gap on my lunch hour and wow, do they have a ton of cute stuff. Expect to see a lot of it in the upcoming Cheryl Shops fall preview.
Like nocturnal shoe shopping? Steve Madden is holding a 40% off midnight madness shoe sale tonight from 8-midnight. Shop online, or visit the website for store locations.
Get up to 75% off Diesel jeans at Bluefly (you can get Daze jeans for $40!).
West Elm has added summer items to their sale section.
Urban Outfitters is having a kickass sale; I highly recommend the website as opposed to the store.

News digest
WWD: In an effort to be hipper, Kohl's launches apt. 9 fashion line; Brit chain Jigsaw is coming to L.A.; Kristin Davis is Maybelline's new face; Lucien Pellat-Finet turns 10 (the company, not the guy); wanna buy Barneys?; a look at the Gap's Sarah Jessica Parker ads; Betsey Johnson to debut handbag line; and the new Pucci store.
NYT: Cathy Horyn ruminates on the importance of personal style; the marriage between indie designers and indie musicians; Saks is remodeling again; political style; an amusing rebuttal to last week's untucked-shirt story; and a cute anecdote about a designer and his luggage.
NYP: Much fantasizing about Britney's wedding; always ahead of the trends, the Post declares thongs are dead, long live boy shorts; girls love their Jackie O sunglasses; and sales.
VV: More on anti-Bush fashion.
NYO: The ever-campy Simon Doonan provides much-needed makeover tips for Courtney Love.
The Daily: Notify jeans (don't worry, I'm not going to call them "the new Sevens"); where designers summer; a roundup of fall ad campaigns; and sequin belts and Stella underwear.
Style.com: Fall's top trends; fall flowers on the runway; Candy Pratts Price, a woman after my own heart, on totes; and five great palettes.
Elle.com: Countless cute fall items to buy. (Check out the sweaters!)
Hint: In Shop Tart, Daryl K's long-awaited, triumphant, very welcome return (can you tell I'm a Daryl K groupie?), and a bunch of new stores.
MUG: Very original hardware.

Buy it
Every fall and spring, Jeanine Lobell's Stila comes out with face palettes containing a combination of eyeshadows and blush in cute packaging, and coordinating lipsticks. Some people collect them, and seeing as how the palettes are getting cuter every season, I can understand why. For fall, Stila introduces fiercely feminine. There are four palettes in very cute, Marc Jacobs-like packages and three lipsticks wrapped in faux leather, and I want them all. Plus, at $20, the palettes are a pretty good bargain, especially if you're like me and you tire of your new makeup after a few weeks. Still, these all look like keepers to me.

Object of Desire
Yes, it's yet another new feature here at Cheryl Shops. A preface: Alluding to some of the more pricey items I spotlight here, some readers have made comments along the lines of "Yikes, this shit is expensive!" Well, yes. While I like to let you know about sales--one of the primary functions of this blog--I also like to let you know about luxury items that are really exceptional, as I think it's cool (and very modern) to mix high and low (e.g., Kate Moss wears $500,000 diamond earrings with a vintage army jacket, a denim skirt, and Manolos). Of course, sometimes it's just fun to drool over things. Hey, I'm a Pisces, and I'm a dreamer. It's par for the course.
So, behold this Missoni cashmere cardigan. Okay, it's a bit loud. And it's $2,700*. But it's the kind of unique item that people stop you on the street to gush over. Plus, it's almost entirely sold out, and that speaks volumes. Missoni knits are incredibly luxurious, made from the finest yarns in really innovative, intricate patterns. The company, which is still family-owned and -operated, has been around for nearly 50 years, and their designs are timeless. Of course, if you're spending $3,000 on a sweater, one would hope to be able to wear it for more than one season. So, really, think of it as an investment. (For more Missoni, visit their boutique at 1009 Madison Ave., or for more affordable options, Saks carries the M Missoni line.)
*$2,700 includes VAT and is converted from pounds, so the price is most likely inflated due to the weak-ass dollar. I'm guessing the sweater would be closer to $2,000 here in the states.

Website of the week
Cheryl Shops is technically a shopping-oriented blog (uh, clearly), but since my focus is primarily on clothes, accessories, and such, I often can't talk about shopping without touching upon fashion (hence "news digest" and similar features). And while my website of the week is usually a e-commerce site (i.e. you can shop there), sometimes I have to make an exception. Like this week: One of my favorite designers, Alexander McQueen, has launched a new website, and it's gorgeous. You can view his current collection in all of its draped and tailored glory, as well as highlights from his past collections, the entire line of eyewear, and the men's line. You can read McQueen's biography and view video clips too. Sure, it doesn't have the bells and whistles that parent Gucci's site does, but the minimalist presentation doesn't distract from the real star: McQueen's superbly constructed clothes. Still want to go shopping? Okay, consider this a preview, then hit McQueen's store on 14 Street.

Weekend shopping
Carrie Bradshaw loves Christian Louboutin shoes, and at these prices--40%-70% off--now you can too. Through 8/31; 10-6; 941 Madison Ave., (at 74th St.).
Skirts, dresses, suits, and separates from Lilah's spring/summer collection are up to 80% off at 30 Vandam. Through 7/25; noon-8, noon-6 Sun.; 30 Vandam St. (btw 6th Ave. & Varick St.).
It's summer sale time at Williams-Sonoma. Save up to 50% online and in stores.
Buy two Tarte products at Beauty.com and get a free Tarte Sunkissed Cheek Stain (a $26 value) with your purchase.
Remember when Sephora had a store in Rockefeller Center? Apparently they're giving Fifth Avenue another go, because their new store at 597 Fifth Avenue opens tomorrow (it's where Benetton used to be, in the Scribner building). Expect sweepstakes, makeovers, samples galore, and more.
Select swimwear is an additional 20% off at Bluefly.
Check out the final sale at eLuxury.com.
Fortunoff is having a jewelry clearance, where baubles are 30%-40% off.
Finally, Century 21 is taking "drastic" discounts of an additional 40%-70% off their designer merchandise. Seeing as how the place was a complete shambles the last time I was there, I shudder to think what the third floor looks like now.

Administrative notes totally unrelated to shopping
Not doing anything tonight? Head over to the Chelsea Barnes & Noble at 6th and 21st at 7pm to hear my better half, MW, read from his book, Girl Boy Etc. Can't make it? Buy a copy on Amazon.
My friends Mina and Julie started a new blog called Meat Market NYC as a place to sort of share stores and vent about all the skeezy men who hit on them. I'll be posting on there as well, so check it out if you want a good laugh. And if you have any stories to share, e-mail 'em to me.

News digest
WWD: Rumor has it that Limited Inc. will once again try to expand Henri Bendel; how to borrow an "It" bag (third item); Badgley Mischka won't show this fall in Bryant Park; the scoop on Banana Republic's costume jewelry; and beauty tidbits.
NYT: Supposedly, glamorous supermodels are back; men are sloppy; and hipsters are into madras--ironically, of course.
NYP: Bush twins vs. Kerry sisters; best bets in the Hamptons (um, you're a few months late on this one, Post); up-and-comers; and Hollywood loves flats (so do I--I'm rocking the Prada ballet slippers today).
Style.com: Designers' fave kicks; Candy Pratts Price on coral; a big-ass hat (good for pale girls like me); new products; and the top ten looks for fall.
The Daily: A report on the new Brooklyn Target; the essential cardi-wrap; a preview of the DVF resort line; how so, So Low?; a couture roundup; and behind the scenes at the Beverly Hills Prada.
MUG: Key rings--rings made from keys, dummy!
Elle.com: Fall bags to salivate over.
Defamer: In Australia, only white trash wear Uggs; and what everyone needs in July: Marc Jacobs moon boots.
Gawker: Another report on the Brooklyn Target, written by my coworker Laura.

ShandiWatch
That's right, kids: Apparently my favorite America's Next Top Model contestant (and, unfortunately, second runner-up) Shandi Sullivan is in town and working...at the Walgreen's by the Empire State Building. (Hey, it's better than working at Walgreen's in Kansas City, MO, right?) One Cheryl Shops reader saw her on the street on Fifth Avenue, and an even luckier reader was waited on by Shandi. As of the ANTM "where are they now?" special several months back, Shandi said she had been contacted by several modeling agencies, but that she was still working at Walgreen's so she could save up, then move here with her pussy--uh, sorry--devoted boyfriend. So let's hope she's just working at Walgreen's until the ink dries on her contract with IMG, Next, Wilhelmina, or the like.
If you see Shandi, e-mail me!

Website of the week
Once upon a time, I was a dancer. I was in a company in high school, did some artsy shows in college, and studied with some of Chicago's coolest modern dance teachers. Granted, I knew dancing professionally was never going to be an option (thanks, journalism degree!), but dance will always be a part of my life. For one thing, I go to see the New York City Ballet and ABT every year. For another, dancers wear some pretty cool clothes, and I tend to incorporate leftovers from my dancing days into my wardrobe nowadays. For those of you without leftovers, there's Danskin, the dancer's choice supplier. While the majority of the stock is leotards and tights and such, many of the items, particularly from the NYCB collection, can be integrated into your wardrobe. Check out the dotted mesh crop top, which makes a dainty little cover-up for cool summer nights; the sheer wrap skirt can be worn alone if you're daring, or over pants for a fresh-from-rehearsal look; the wrap top is a very flattering staple; these legwarmers are cheap ($7!) and have a drawcord at the top, so they flare out--very Chanel--at the bottom, plus the microfiber material will keep your bare legs quite warm in the upcoming cool months; and every dancer has a pair of these jazz pants--you can wear them around the house, to yoga, running errands, even--I kid you not--out on the town. One note: Dancers are tiny and thus the clothes run small, so order up a size. Wearing dancers' clothes might not shout "Swan Lake!" to everyone passing you on the street, but it might just make you feel a bit more graceful and delicate.

The week in shopping
Sale of the week: Granted, it's slim pickings this week sale-wise (looks like everyone's on vacation), but this cash-only mystery sale features James Perse, Joey & T, Buffalo, Betsy Johnson, Seven, Miss Sixty, Paper Denim & Cloth, Hudson, and Von Dutch. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Through 7/23; 10-7; 100 Wooster St. (Prince & Spring Sts.).
Edmundo Castillo's sexy shoes are $100 and up. 7/21-7/25; 11-7, noon-6 Sun.; 219 Mott St.
It's the Pre-Season Fashion Event at Loehmann's, where you can get $10 bonus dollars for every $50 you spend, plus get an additional 50% off clearance merchandise. 7/20-7/25.
Summer markdowns at MoMA Design Store on selected tabletop, desk, and personal accessories, home furnishings, and stationery have reached 20%-70% off, and all proceeds support MoMA. Through 8/1; 44 W. 53rd St. (5th & 6th Aves.), 81 Spring St. (at Crosby).
I checked out Sigerson Morrison over the weekend (shockingly, I was a good girl and did not buy anything). Shoes are now 50% off, and there's still a very good selection (and no lines to get into the store). Most pairs are in the $150-$200 range, but if you go to the website, you can buy the Belle line (not available at the SM store), most of which is under $150. Of course, if you're holding out for the big sale, all Sigerson Morrison shoes will be $110 as of 7/30.
Um, that's about it for sales this week. Seriously. If you know of any, please e-mail me.

Um, that's about it for sales this week. Seriously. If you know of any, please e-mail me.

You thought I wasn't going to post anything else this week, didn't you? Well, while news digest, Cheryl shops..., and the other regulars were missing this week, I wouldn't dream of omitting the sales. That's why you read Cheryl Shops in the first place, right? Website of the week
I've lamented before the fact that since my e-mail address is out on the Internet, I tend to get a lot of junk mail, from everyone from "exiled African kings" requesting my bank account number to websites peddling penile enlargement methods. A welcome surprise, however, is Velocity Art and Design, a Seattle-based purveyor of furniture, home accessories, and fine art. Their objective is to offer "warm modernism," and it shows. The merchandise is carefully selected and presented in an accessible--not intimidating--manner. Instead of carrying heavy hitters Kartell, Herman Miller, Knoll, and the like, Velocity's tends toward the lesser-known but well-received: Jonathan Adler, Blu Dot, Modernica, and others. I think the coolest--and one of the more affordable--items on the site is the groove tube, a device that suctions onto your TV and produces an abstraction of whatever you're watching (great for parties!). I love the Thomas Paul pillows, the very cool Pistillo lamp, and, of course, the Noguchi cyclone table, which you can also find in the apartment of yours truly. Also worth checking out is the artwork section, where, okay, most of the decent-sized pieces are four figures, but how cool is this limited-edition Jeff Koons puppy? As my grandma always said, Art is an excellent investment. (Funny, I say the same thing about fashion...) And since you'll be spending $1,800, your order will ship for free (as will any order over $100).

Awesome handbag sale #2: Rafe’s a-little-bit-uptown, a-little-bit-downtown bags (and shoes!) are 50%-70% off. 7/10-7/18; 11-7; 1 Bleecker St. (at Bowery).

Shout-out to my pregnant friend Michele #2: The slightly more swanky A Pea in the Pod has chic maternitywear for up to 75% off. Through 7/31; 10-7, 10-6 Sat., noon-6 Sun.; 860 Madison Ave. (at 70th St.).
Got a summer Friday tomorrow? Join the Carmella Soprano-esque New Jersey housewives at the opening of the new Victoria's Secret at the Short Hills Mall. Doors open at 9; get a gift set (worth $120) with a $50 purchase (yay for gift with purchase!), plus free makeovers and "professional" bra fittings. (I say "professional", because last time I was "fitted" for a bra at Victoria's Secret, I was told that I was a 34DD. Um, no. This is one of the many reasons I don't shop at Victoria's Secret.)
Save up to 60% on sale items at West Elm.
Get a free deluxe sample of Stila's new major lash mascara with any order from Stila; plus spend $45 and get free shipping when you enter code JULY04.
Fortunoff is having its semi-annual furniture sale.

Website of the week
While I love the convenience and selection of Sephora and the expertise at Bliss, sometimes, when shopping for beauty products, I really want a transporting experience. Enter Beautyhabit, a California-based website that offers luxury products from around the world. You can shop by brand name or by product categories, which are then broken down by brand; shopping by category works best, since many of the brands are exotic and little-known. Standouts include the Alpine Speick, made from the valerian plant; Yu-Be, the #1 cream in Japan; the yummy-smelling La Ligne de St. Barth, from the Caribbean; and the almond-based L'amande, from Marseilles. As for little-known homegrown products, there's the whimsical sadie loves billy cosmetics line; J.Lo's favorite Hollywood Fashion Tape; and the delicious-sounding Ganache for Lips. For new arrivals at Beautyhabit, check out the What's new page; the specials section lists many gifts with purchase (my favorite!). Also, Beautyhabit ships all orders over $100 for free, and all orders receive a smattering of samples. (Or if you're the tenative type, send them $11 and they'll send you six samples of your choice--for details, read this.) Beauty products from around the world and free samples? I'm definitely going to make Beautyhabit a habit.
